Description:

SUMMARY
Under general direction, is responsible for conducting educational classes for special education preschool and school-age students Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) in accordance with the needs of the students and in accordance with the regulations and requirements of the applicable governmental and other regulatory agencies. Acts as team leader of each student’s team. The Teacher is responsible for supervising Teacher Assistants assigned to his/her team (class) orient; responsibly directs, and commends Teacher Assistants.

Salary: $68,652.00 - $75,000.00 per year + Industry-Leading Benefits! $5,000 SIGN-ON BONUS after 6 months of employment.

License/Certification:

  • NYS Teaching Certification Early Childhood Special Education (Required)

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Teacher will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans and conducts classes/activities adapted to the needs of students in collaboration with other teachers and Teacher Assistants.
  • Assesses and prepares IEPs. Implements and evaluates short and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Participates in activities pertaining to a student transitioning to kindergarten, and attends turning five meetings.
  • Participates in Annual review meetings with Committee on Preschool Special Education administrators (CPSE).
  • Provides educational assessment and evaluation of students annually in all educational domains using DAYC-2 (Developmental Assessment of Young Children), HELP (Hawaii Early Learning Profile), and informal teacher observations.
  • Prepares and adapts all individual and group lesson plans and materials, equipment and furniture arrangement, and necessary modifications of environment utilizing Creative Curriculum and Al’s Pals social-emotional learning curriculum
  • Maintains records of daily attendance and progress. Write quarterly reports, annual reports, and other data as requested.
  • Ensures that services are rendered to students with the utmost regard for their personal dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Participates in activities outside the classroom where necessary i.e., trips, pool (only BK SITE), gym, and community walks.
  • Serves and participates as a member at interdisciplinary team meetings, Annual Reviews, parent meetings, Special Review Committee meetings, In-Services, etc. as required.
  • Orients, trains, delegates, supervises work of TAs
  • Obtains approval of class equipment and materials when necessary.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education
  • New York State Certification in Special Education Early Childhood (Birth-2nd grade)
  • New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education or N-6 (for Day Care and UPK Teachers).
  • Meet all additional NY State Certification requirements
  • Availability Monday-Friday 8am-3pm, year-round
Minimum Education Level: Master's Degree
Preferred Education Level: Master's Degree
