Description:

The Twos teacher is responsible for the toddler class each morning, then gives some time to other classes after toddlers leave.  In all classes patience, enthusiasm and a respect for the important work of early childhood is a must.  M-F 8:30-1:30; extended hours available with a mixed age preschool group 1:30-4.  Ideal for a parent of school-age children:  we follow the local public school schedule for breaks and holidays.  School year starts the week after labor day, and ends early June; 6 weeks of summer hours are available but not required.  

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties as the lead teacher in the Toddler classroom, direct and work closely with the Assistant Teacher.
  • Prepare the toddler classroom environment each day and plan a developmentally appropriate curriculum where children learn through play.
  • Make observations and records to plan for each child’s developmental strengths and challenges.
  • Maintain a nurturing, calm and positive atmosphere that respects each child.
  • Communicate well and frequently with families and collaborate with colleagues and administration.
  • Update and maintain information in class online site for timely communication.
  • Ensure that state requirements are met for the supervision of the children and a clean, healthy and nurturing environment.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, community events and other meetings identified.
  • Be come familiar with and follow the school's policies and procedures

Qualifications:

The Lead Teacher must have at least two years of experience working with children, at least one year of which is with children under the age of 3.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent and
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, or a CDA Infant/Toddler credential and/or Minimum of 9 early childhood credits working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in an Early Childhood field of study
Minimum Education Level: CDA Credential
Preferred Education Level: Bachelor's Degree

Additional Information:

  • The teacher must be able to perform light physical work and have the ability to lift and carry children weighing approximately 20 to 50 pounds. The teacher will be required to bend, crouch, lift, kneel and other physical activity as they address the needs of the student. There will be occasions when the teacher will need to assist in the personal hygiene of a student. The person in this position is responsible for maintaining performance under pressure, and handling stress in a manner that is acceptable to others and to the organization.
  • The teacher must fulfill requirements of NY OCFS clearance
