Building on the work of the organization’s founder, the Executive Director (ED) will lead CHCCC into a new phase of growth by expanding CHCCC’s organizational capacity to increase services and employment opportunities, attract financial and other resources, make its work even more visible to broader audiences, and ensure its quality, relevance, and sustainability. The ED will be the leader and spokesperson for CHCCC, and will ensure that the organization is prepared to meet new and expected needs and challenges. The ED also will continue to strengthen the organization by collaborating closely with the staff and Board to maintain high-quality programming, enhance the operational infrastructure, maintain financial stability, and widen sources of financial and other support. Leading CHCCC in its next stage of development offers a unique opportunity for a creative visionary and hands-on manager committed to quality programming in the areas of early childhood education and workforce development, family support, and community impact.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and Management
  • Sets the tone for an exceptional organizational culture based on positive work relationships, collaboration, and commitment to the mission

To promote young children’s optimal development and strengthen families in the greater Cypress Hills, Brooklyn community through quality early childhood services, family support, parent leadership, and related employment opportunities

  • Works with the CHCCC Board of Directors to maintain the focus on the vision, make progress toward realizing the mission, and implement strategies effectively and efficiently 
  • Partners with the Board, with input from the staff, to set annual goals and related objectives that are in line with the organization’s strategic direction
  • Facilitates the growth and development of a strong and diverse Board
  • Navigates the dynamics of the federal, State, and City funding and educational systems and leads the organization’s government funding initiatives
  • Attracts, develops, and retains an energetic, talented, and diverse staff committed to the mission and values of CHCCC
  • Maintains a strong and collaborative partnership with the staff of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation

B. Program Planning, Management and Evaluation

  • Leads the organization’s efforts in developing and implementing programs, ensuring their alignment with CHCCC’s mission and strategies, and key trends in early childhood education
  • Provides engaged and supportive management for the organization’s program managers and other key staff
  • Ensures that programs are appropriately monitored and evaluated, and that results are  used to inform program development, management, and fundraising
  • Anticipates shifts in the early childhood education landscape and adapt CHCCC’s programming accordingly
  1. Finance and Administration
  • Oversees financial management of the organization including the development of an annual budget and audit for presentation to the Board of Directors for its approval
  • Develops financial strategies in an increasingly competitive and ever-changing landscape
  • Provides strong and transparent management of grants and contracts from government agencies and private funding sources
  • Ensures that the organization is making sound business decisions related to contracts, vendor services, etc.
  • Ensures that sound human resource practices are in place and followed
  • Uses technology to enhance service delivery
  1. Fundraising
  • Partners with the CHCCC Board and staff to develop and implement a broad and diverse fundraising plan including institutional and individual giving and special events to promote sustainability and growth
  • Devises and implements strategies to generate new sources of income
  • Maintains strong relationships with the organization’s current network of donors, and actively cultivate new high-level donor relationships (both institutional and individual)
  1. Communications and External Relations
  • Serves as the face of the organization, representing the programs and points of view of CHCCC to government agencies, funders, other organizations, community members, and the general public
  • Represents the organization at local, citywide, statewide, and national events and ensures a voice for CHCCC in professional associations and early childhood and family support groups
  • Develops and implements an ongoing communication and marketing strategy  



  • Genuine interest in and commitment to helping the families of Cypress Hills and the larger East New York community
  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of early childhood education
  • At least eight years of management and supervisory experience; executive leadership experience a plus

Additional Information:


  • Track record in raising funds from a variety of sources
  • Experience leading high-impact programs grounded in the needs of the local community
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders such as the CHCCC Board of Directors, government agencies, and private funders, as well as local schools and community-based organizations
  • Experience in operations and sound management of the finances of a nonprofit of comparable size and complexity
  • Creative thinker and visionary who is able to articulate a compelling vision and connect day-to-day work effort to energize staff and drive efficient execution
  • Experience securing and managing government contracts and engaging successfully with staff at funding agencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (Bilingual English/Spanish a plus)
  • Strategic thinker with experience with strategic and/or program planning
  • Experience in recruiting, developing, and supervising a high-performing staff
  • Excellent judgment; able to integrate careful analysis with creativity to guide program planning, implementation, and evaluation, thoughtfully weighing program objectives against financial constraints
