Description:

The purpose of this position is to help students develop and strengthen academic, English language and social skills. 

Preferred qualifications are: the ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English; experience in education, and/or human services, knowledge of child development and classroom management; strong administrative, leadership and interpersonal skills; knowledge of basic first aid and implementation of universal precautions; general knowledge of child development and ability to relate with children and adults; willingness and ability to learn educational methodology; and experience working with and training volunteers. 

Responsibilities:

  • Education: Welcomes and integrates students; helps plan children’s education programs, including life skills and English language instruction; prepares/assists with class rosters and student files including attendance; helps plan age-level appropriate lessons and tutors students; monitors students at all times including on the playground. 
  • Compliance: Complies with all applicable federal and state regulations and ensures volunteers adhere to these standards. 
  • Coordination: Communicates regularly with the supervising staff. 
  • Training:  Maintains currency of training and certifications.  Attends all training as directed by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

This position requires at least an Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Education, or a related field or a high school diploma and at least two years of experience working with children ages 5 to 14.
