Assistant Teacher

Description:

Under general, ongoing supervision, the Teacher Assistant will provide a developmentally appropriate educational experience for preschool age children in which each child can grow emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically according to his/her individual needs, ability level and maturity.  The Teacher Assistant will help to establish and maintain standards of child behavior appropriate to preschool children to achieve a functional and healthy learning environment. The role requires cooperation with fellow staff members and related professionals in assessing and helping to solve student health, social and learning issues. The Teacher Assistant will partner with families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child's family relationships.  Professional competence will be advanced through self-reflection and participation in professional development.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in curriculum implementation and in creating and maintaining a functional and attractive learning environment.  
• Engage in warm and nurturing interactions with children to support play, active exploration and a love of learning.
• Supervise students at all times to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
• Establish positive relationships with students, families and other staff through collaboration and involvement in school functions.
• Engage in professional development opportunities and achieve/maintain any necessary certification requirements.
