Overall, the Early Head Start Health Workers primary responsibilities are to work closely with the Health and Safety Director in carrying out the day-by-day operation of the program and to facilitate communication between parents, staff and the community; specifically in the areas related to Health tracking and compliance with Federal, State, and Local health codes by performing the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedules appropriate workshops for parents.
  • Post updates and notices.
  • Child Plus notes.
  • Serves as advocate for in-house referrals.
  • Work with Community Partners to organize HSAC twice a year.
  • Organize and support Director for the EHS Healthy Initiative. Giving monthly reports of attendance with data.
  • Support Baby School and FCC children and parents.
  • Implements and maintains health tracking and monitoring procedures to ensure that there is a physical on file for every child in the program and every parent volunteer.
  • Responsible for dispensing medication if and when necessary, within the guidelines described in the EHS medication administration policies. Workers are expected to keep NYS MAT certification valid and current.
  • Generates and distributes health alert notices upon discovery of any illness affecting a child, parent or staff in the program.
  • Attends weekly team meetings about children and families.
  • Makes home visits to Providers or Parents including the mandated postpartum home visit for EHS/Pregnancy cases.
  • Health Advisory organization (Community Partners), Healthy Initiative, Health Fair.
  • Assists in the kitchen and classroom as necessary.
  • Updates annual Social Service and Parent Involvement plans with Policy Council and other staff.
  • Performs secretarial duties in all components.
  • Place orders, and distribute orders to providers and staff.
  • Organize closets supplies for 16 providers on a monthly basis or when they need them.
  • Organize and be part of PDT for providers once a month.
  • Give support to providers at Room to Grow- Gross Motor activities.
  • Support providers with any kind of health emergencies.
  • Experience working with children 2 months to 3 years old.
  • Home visits to Providers 4 times a year or as needed.
  • Responsible for understanding and implementing Program Performance Standards, Article 47 and DOH Regulations.
  • Any and all other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor or Director.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Bachelor Degree
  • CNA Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications.
  • Child Abuse Training.
