Early Head Start offers comprehensive child development services, family support services and advocacy to low income pregnant women and families with children under three years of age.  The program provides developmentally appropriate care and home visits to families in the Lower East Side, NY. As the Head Teacher, you will provide  nurturing learning environment for children by developing appropriate lesson plans and learning about the needs of your students- educationally, emotionally, developmentally, and physically.  You will not only teach children but also mentor assistant teachers and provide training to program staff.   

Responsibilities:

What You Will Also Do: 
•    Develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with families and children
•    Develop goals for children in the classroom based on developmental assessment 
•    Develop knowledge of services available to families in the community
•    Maintain proper documentation on children, classroom and program activities
•    Conduct home visits to at least twice per program year
•    Track attendance and Child and Adult Care Food Program records 
•    Conduct parent meetings and parent teacher conferences 
•    Attend professional development conferences and training as required

Qualifications:

What We are Looking For: 
•    You have a NYS Certification in Early Childhood Education
•    You have 2+ years working with children ages 2-4 in a classroom setting 
•    You’re a leader, mentor, coach, and able to inspire others
•    Proactively thinking outside of the box to engage children
•    You know that communication is key and passionate about organization and accuracy. 
•    A huge plus if you are bilingual in English and Chinese or Spanish. 
•    Bachelor’s degree required 
•    Willingness to be an advocate for your program, participants and community 
•    You have a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.
