The Bank Street Education Center (“the Center”) partners with school systems (districts, state education departments) to improve instruction at scale. The Center is also responsible for new program design and incubation to expand Bank Street’s external partnerships and impact. A key new program priority is to expand the College’s reach for programs and policy serving children ages 0-3. This role will support that vision by developing a strategy and approach that can serve as a 0-3 policy “call to action” with a concrete set of recommendations that could be embraced by funders, policy makers and key leaders in the field to increase access to and the quality of 0-3 early care and education. The Carnegie Corporation of New York will be a key funder and stakeholder for this project.

Responsibilities:

Research and strategy development

● Consult background research on areas of interest in the 0 to 3 landscape.

● Perform research to understand where current investment exists and where there are gaps in funding and support.

● Design interview protocols and interview key stakeholders (researchers, practitioners, national experts, community organizations and funders) to understand work underway, promising practices, and pitfalls.

● Design and implement an online survey tool to gather input on 0-3 policy ideas.

● Build upon knowledge gleaned from research, observation and experience to generate strategy ideas and areas of focus that would have broad and deep impact.


Engage with stakeholders
● Plan for in-person or virtual convenings of stakeholders to gather input and feedback and cycle ideas for refinement back through a process of ongoing review.

● Facilitate group discussions with diverse sets of stakeholders to arrive at decisions that reflect a range of voices and viewpoints.

● Use design thinking and similar approaches to vet working challenges and opportunities in 0-3 space with a diverse set of stakeholders including policy experts, practitioners, academics, funders, and others.

● Manage all related logistics and operations
 

Strategic Guidance & Reporting

● With consultation from College Leadership, write a white paper and produce other products that communicate and justify a concrete set of 0-3 recommendations that could be embraced by funders, policy makers and key leaders in the field

● Meet with funder leadership to monitor project progress and recommend adjustments accordingly.

● Participate in other key meetings that report on and inform the trajectory of the project.

● Lead presentations on the debriefing of learnings and implications of the project in an ongoing fashion with funder and Center staff.

● Provide input and strategic guidance as needed to Center Leadership supporting the growth of the portfolio of 0-3 projects.

● Provide support with development of connected projects across the Ed Center

● Demonstrated ability to design and manage complex projects.
● Demonstrated ability to productively facilitate group discussions with diverse sets of stakeholders.
● Demonstrated understanding of 0-3 policy landscape.
● Demonstrated ability to collaborate with external partners and funders.
● Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds.
● The ability to communicate persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously in writing.
● Ability to conceive of and create a variety of communications materials for a variety of audiences including powerpoint presentations, white papers, briefing documents and short articles
● Ability to work effectively with others at varying levels of an organization and to consistently display a high level of professionalism in all interactions.
● Flexibility in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment of quickly changing priorities and tight deadlines.
