ACAP works with vulnerable families with a variety of backgrounds and experiences throughout Albany County. We seek individuals who practice compassion for our currently families while also empowering them to build stronger futures for generations to come. The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Department currently consists of ten (10) sites throughout Albany County, located in the City of Albany, Cohoes, and Ravena and employs around one hundred (100) staff and serves several hundred children in the Head Start, Early Head Start, and Universal Pre-K Programs.

As the Assistant Director (AD), you will assist the ECE Director in overseeing the ECE department through direct oversight of the daily operations, upholding compliance standards for grant and contract requirements, and ensuring consistency in quality service delivery across all programs. You will directly supervise management level, line staff, volunteers, interns, and/or job experience workers in one or more locations when necessary and in accordance with laws and agency policies. Your responsibilities would include interview, hiring, and promoting recommendations; training, planning, assigning, directing, and approving work assignments; appraising performances; rewarding and conducting disciplinary actions; and addressing and resolving problems.

As the AD, you will be expected to participate in preparing and managing program budgets, ensuring funds are allocating appropriately and able to maintain operations. You will collaborate with senior level staffing and other ACAP staff to assist with development implementation of program changes based on agency and community needs as well as strategic planning outcomes. You will be in tune with the ever-changing department needs and offer input for development and growth opportunities, while ensuring current staff and customer needs are still being met. You will be expected to understand the population ACAP serves and be able to identify needs and potential collaborations which enhance self-reliance and encourage families and individuals to partner within their communities. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience working in the field of Human Services or Community-based Organization, with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

CLASSIFICATION / HOURS: 

Exempt, Full-time (40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year)
