Description:

The Assistant Teacher, under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, assists in the running of the classroom. This person assists in carrying out plans for daily instruction provided by the teacher. The Assistant Teacher has responsibility for the safety and well-being of each child while in care. The Assistant Teacher will have the ability to relate to each child in a friendly and caring manner.

Responsibilities:

Assist the Lead Teacher with program development and daily lesson plans, and completing child assessments.
Maintain a safe, clean and orderly classroom and assist in compliance with State Regulations, applicable Accreditation Standards, and Early Learning Standards.
Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, and is responsible for attending yearly training seminars and self-development training equaling a minimum of thirty hours every two years. (15 hours of training required in the first six months of employment).
Maintains positive lines of communication with parents and guardians.
Treats each child with respect and in a caring and friendly manner.
Assists with daily house keeping duties including emptying trash containers, diaper pails, cleaning and storing supplies, toys and cots and vacuuming/ mopping.
Assists with classroom food distribution, mealtimes, and cleanup.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required and experience working in a child care center.. Each employee must be able to pass a New York State Central Registry Child Abuse Database clearance, criminal background check, New York State Justice Center Staff Exclusion List clearance; as well as receive a health exam and Tuberculosis (TB/PPD) test. Current First Aid/ CPR/AED certification is preferred. Knowledge of the Highscope Curriculum is a plus.

The Early Childhood Education Teacher must have the ability to deal with children and parents in a positive manner, including an ability to deal with children with behavior needs, and parents who require attention with difficult situations. Must be committed to the mission and vision of Creative Beginnings Child Care, Inc.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to reach, bend, stop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt, hourly. This position is yearly from September-June (10 months)
