The Hebrew Educational Society, a thriving multi-service, comprehensive community center located in southeast Brooklyn, provides a diverse array of programs and services within a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment that is inclusive of people of all ages and ability levels. Programs include Early Childhood, After School, Camps, Athletic and Aquatic Activities, Older Adults & People with disabilities.

Our Early Childhood Center currently offers full-day, year-round programming for children ages 3-5 including an NYC Early Learn program, Pre-K for All, extended day services, and Summer Camp. The Early Childhood Director provides overall program leadership and supervision, coordinates and implements an age and developmentally appropriate curriculum, engaging in program evaluation and planning as well as training and supervising teachers and support staff. A member of the HES Management Team, the Early Childhood Director reports to the Agency’s Associate Executive Director.

The Early Childhood Director is responsible for the overall management, supervision and planning for the Early Childhood program. This is a full-time, advanced management position that requires independent judgment, initiative, creativity, and flexibility. The ECC Director shapes the curriculum, creates policies based on best practices, supervises the teaching and administrative staff, and oversees the daily operations of the center. They welcome collaboration with teaching staff and enjoy interacting with children. The ECC Director is passionate about building a dynamic center to serve families and their children. As families grow within the program, the ECC Director works to identify and build engagement opportunities for them throughout the agency.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of a year-round, developmentally appropriate, play based program

  • Implement a vision for excellence which includes best practices in early childhood education

  • Foster a nurturing, inclusive and engaging environment which reflects respect and compassion that is supportive of children, families and teachers

  • Develop and follow ECC budget and ensure best business practices

  • Plan, direct and supervise all Early Childhood Department Programs.

  • Hire and lead a team of early childhood educators that promote each child’s cognitive, language, social-emotional, and motor skill development and who create an environment that fosters respect and builds community.

  • Ensure compliance with all NYCDOH, Early Learn, PKA, ACS, and DOE standards, contracts, and reporting.

  • Maintain regular, consistent, and meaningful communication with parents, staff and colleagues.

  • Work with managerial, administrative, and direct service staff to promote agency goals and standards that include involvement with agency-wide activities and inter-department projects.

Qualifications:

  • M.A. In Education or related field and a New York State Department of Education teacher certification in Early Childhood Education (B-2) or (N,K, Grades 1-6).

  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in an Early Childhood Program and three years of supervisory experience in an educational setting.

  • Complies with all Agency, State, City and Federal regulations for a person working in an Early Childhood setting.

  • Highly knowledgeable in working with Microsoft Office and NYC DOE computer systems.
