Park Avenue Methodist Day School (PAMDS http://pamdayschool.org/) is seeking a vibrant, passionate and creative teacher to join the 2021-2022 school year in a full-time role as a lead teacher in our pre-kindergarten classroom, the 3s/4s. PAMDS is the home of Playful Inquiry and has a long-standing reputation within New York City independent preschools. Currently, PAMDS is open for in-person instruction and this position would be for in-person teaching. Hours would be 8:00 to 4:00 or 8:30 to 4:30 depending on the day.
• Collaborating with children, colleagues and the director to create responsive inquiry cycles that meet the developmental needs of the students through their interests
• Supporting an assistant teacher with their growth and development within the classroom
• Creating play based experiences that reflect interests, inquiry cycles and developmental milestones
• Completing ongoing school reports and progress reports on students • Documenting student learning through panels and portfolios
• Attending weekly professional development meetings and reflective meetings with colleagues and the director
• Communicating with parents through weekly newsletters, emails, phone calls and parent teacher conferences two times a year
• Running Early Bird one morning a week
• A masters degree in the field of education and certification to teach through New York State (can be in progress)
• A willingness to collaborate and a desire to grow as an educator
• Creative thinking and drive
• Experience with Project Based Learning, Reggio-Emilia or Co-Constructivist pedagogy
• Commitment to actively foster an anti-racist and antibias classroom community
• General proficiency in computer related skills such as Zoom, Google Drive/Doc & word processing • Awareness of (or the completion of) the various Department of Health mandated trainings for early childhood educators that will need to be completed by August 31st
• Willingness to teach in person with an understanding and flexibility to transition to remote learning if need be
