Brooklyn Schoolhouse is a small independent preschool founded on the conviction that children have an innate desire to explore and are naturally competent and capable learners. We believe children learn best in a diverse community where their ideas and questions are respected, and where children are guided through the process of building meaningful understandings.

Brooklyn Schoolhouse is seeking a full-time Education Director. At Brooklyn Schoolhouse, the Education Director assists the Founder-Director in overseeing operations of the school. The Education Director is responsible for cultivating a warm and nurturing environment for children, families, and teachers. Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of the school.
    • Greet families upon arrival and dismissal.
    • Answer all school phone calls and emails.
    • Aid children and adults in the case of injury or other emergencies.
    • Maintain organization in the office, including hard copies and digital files as needed.
    • Inventory supplies and order additional as needed.
    • Coordinate technology and/or facility maintenance as needed (e.g., plumber).
    • Align day-to-day operations with Article 47 and any new Department of Health rules and regulations.
    • Interface with the Department of Health or other regulatory bodies as needed.
    • Lead school-wide events in alignment with the school calendar.
  • Ensure all children have the support they need to thrive.
    • Communicate with families and teachers about children’s ongoing progress.
    • Coordinate services with the Committee on Preschool Special Education.
    • Collaborate with providers, including SEITs, OT, PT, and speech therapists.
  • Manage all admissions and exmissions.
    • Maintain the website’s application page.
    • Plan and implement admissions open houses.
    • Review applications.
    • Prepare welcome and waitlist letters as appropriate.
    • Collect enrollment agreements and process tuition deposits.
    • Coordinate ISAAGNY reports with families.
    • Assist families in making decisions regarding kindergarten.
  • Support teachers with their ongoing development.
    • Establish annual staff development goals with each teacher.
    • Design biweekly staff meetings that enrich teacher practice.
    • Observe in the classroom weekly.
    • Facilitate weekly one-on-one support meetings with each teacher.
    • Provide teachers with feedback and coaching.
  • Maintain an operating budget in alignment with the school’s goals.
    • Manage tuition invoicing for all families.
    • Collaborate with the Finance Director to adjust operating costs as needed.
    • Design and implement an annual fundraiser.
  • Collaborate with the Founder-Director on the school’s strategic vision.
    • Engage in long-term discussions about the mission, vision, and direction of the school with the Founder-Director.
    • Support with the recruitment and hiring of new staff members.
    • Provide suggestions and feedback regarding new programmatic initiatives.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have previous administrative experience.

Active New York State Teaching and/or School Building Leadership certification is required.

BA required; MA preferred, but not required.

This is a full-time position with a total estimated hours of 40 per week.

Salary is commensurate with education, state certification, and years of experience.
