Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and committed early childhood educator and administrator to be The Teacher/Educational Director at East Harlem Block Nursery #2 located in Harlem. This position has a split role, dividing time between the UPK classroom as the Group Teacher and providing leadership and administration for the site as its Educational Director. In the Group Teacher role; working in collaboration with the teaching team implement the, which fosters the development of a positive self-concept and cognitive skills, as well as conducting assessment to monitor development. In the Educational Director role; has oversight of the program overall program which includes: implementation of the curriculum, staff management, site compliance with multiple guidelines, facilities management and engaging with the children and families. The ideal candidate should possess a passion for building a quality early education program and display a demonstrated level of management skills to supervise teaching staff and direct the overall program, ensure classroom safety, and prepare and evaluate the curriculum for children to be kindergarten-ready.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Duties: (40%)
Responsible for Facilities Management, Staffing Management, Program Administration and Parental Communication and Involvement. Ability to build rapport with teachers, parents and center staff is integral to the success of this role.
Group Teacher Duties: (60 %)
In this role, the Group Teacher is responsible for leading the teaching team in the UPK classroom and implement the Creative Curriculum with weekly lesson plans that meet the children’s individual needs.
Position Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (MA/MS preferred);
NYS Certification (Birth to Grade 2)
Experience:
· Minimum: Three (3) years of classroom experience in a pre-school/day care center or child development-related organization with some management experience. Preferred: Three years in a management role.
· Familiarity with the Creative Curriculum, ECERS and Teaching Strategies Gold ACS and/ or Head Start, a plus.
Additional Requirement:
Familiarity navigating complex local, state and federal funding agencies’ procedures and processes, specifically ACS, DOHMH and DOE.
