Sharon Baptist Head Start is currently accepting applications for the position of lead teacher in a toddler classroom (children ages 2 to 3).  Our ideal candidate is someone who loves working with young children, their families and staff.  He/she must be knowledgeable about early childhood education/development and have previous experience with toddlers.  We are looking for someone who is committed to professional development and is dedicated to helping our children and families grow and thrive.  Our program recently celebrated 50 years of service to children and families in the Bronx. We invite you to come see the invaluable work we do on a daily basis.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Education Director, the lead teacher's responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of children by providing a clean and healthy environment.
  • Providing a warm, nurturing environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Screening children for potential developmental delays.
  • Implementing The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers and Twos, the GOLD Assessment System and Tadpoles.
  • Curriculum planning that ensures children meet school readiness goals and standards.
  • Observing and documenting children's action and language as part of ongoing assessment.
  • Planning and individualizing for children who have I.E.P.s through Early Intervention.
  • Helping toddlers transition from diapers/pull-ups to regular toileting.

Qualifications:

B.S. in Early Childhood Education or Special Education with Initial Certification (or pending certification).

or

M.S. in Early Childhood Education or Special Education with Professional Certification (or pending certification).

*Study plan applicants will also be considered if the qualifications above are partially met with current registration in a B.S. or M.S. program.
