The Education/Site Director is responsible for the day to day operation of the center.  She/he works collaboratively with her Family and Community Partnership Supervisor in implementing the agency’s approved curriculum to ensure the maximum development of each child’s physical, educational, nutritional and mental needs in a safe culturally sensitive learning environment.  She/he serves as a resource person for the staff and provides information on current trends and research in Early Childhood Education.  She/he will assist and mentor Education staff in the application of the approved curriculum at the classroom level to improve learning opportunities for the children.  The Education/Site Director serves a bridge between the home and the school by involving families in the implementation of the curriculum to achieve optimum potential towards family literacy and reinforces the families’ role as the primary educator.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of the Education/Site Director include but are not limited to:

  • Provides direct supervision of all Education staff
  • Monitors the center’s compliance with licensing requirements
  • Enforces in collaboration with the staff and parents the daily implementation of the agency approved curriculum that is consistent with the Head Start Performance Standards
  • Promotes and broaden the children’s learning experiences through individualized small group settings by providing opportunities to work alone or with other children
  • Serves as a resource person for staff by providing skills and knowledge in Administration and the interpretation of progress data of children and translating them into meaningful learning experiences
  • Participates in the recruitment and maintenance of enrollment of at least 80% of children with special needs and the provision of appropriate services as required in their IEP/IFSP
  • Supports the parents role as the primary educator of their own children
  • Keeps and maintains accurate and updated records on children and staff in a well secured storage area
  • Monitors all incident and accident reports
  • Implements agency’s established procedures for handling cases and suspected known cases of child abuse and/or neglect
  • Supports children’s mental wellness by collaborating with parents and staff and Mental Health consultants and members of the Multi-Disciplinary team
  • Works in conjunction with the Board of Education for the transitioning of children to Kindergarten

Qualifications:

Desired Qualifications:

  • M.S. Degree from an accredited college (preferably in Early Childhood Education)
  • NYS State Certification
  • Minimum of three years experience working with children aged 3-5 years old
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of Administration, Training and Supervision
