Teacher Assistant (Part Time, 20-25 hour a week)

Description:

Park Slope Schoolhouse Child Care Center is an early childhood educational program serving children ages 1-4 years old.  We are a full year, full day program, open from 7:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

Teacher assistants and substitutes are responsible for supporting our classroom teachers in creating a learning environment that is developmentally appropriate.  Teacher assistants and substitutes help maintain a positive, safe and nurturing atmosphere.  Positive interactions, scaffolding and modeling are essential responsibilities to the position.

Qualifications:

• Must be currently enrolled and working towards an Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree program in Early Childhood Education and/or a CDA
• Must have at least 1 year experience in an early childhood educational setting
• Must have confidence in working/communicating with parents
• Strong communication skills

Responsibilities:

• Overall supervision of classroom and children
• Implement lessons and activities provided by teaching staff
• Assist in all capacities within the classroom environment
• Attend all required class and staff meetings, workshops, or school functions

Responsibilities:

• Assist with planning, preparing and implementation of developmentally appropriate individual and group activities
• Assist with setting up and maintaining a clean, safe and healthy classroom environment
• Interacts in a caring and professional manner with children and families while recognizing and maintaining confidentiality standards and requirements.
• Broadens their own knowledge of the cultural and ethnic heritage of the children and families being served to better meet individual needs.
