The Early Childhood Compliance Director will ensure that the early childhood center-based and home-based programs maintain the highest quality of health and safety standards of children in the child care environment. The Compliance Director will also ensure that all programs operate in compliance with NYC Health Code, NYS Social Service Regulations and Head Start Performance Standards. Reporting to the Associate Executive Director of Early Childhood Programs, this position will work to develop and implement operational health and safety monitoring systems that can be fully utilized to meet specifications established by regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities:

Work collaboratively with home-based, center-based, and senior leadership to monitor, support and maintain health and safety compliance and quality assurance with New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) Standards, Head Start Performance Standards, Administration for Children’s Services EarlyLearn, New York City Department of Education (DOE UPK) and Quality Stars NY

  • Review, track, document, and coordinate timely responses and corrective actions for violations cited and confirm appropriate responses are filed with citing agencies 
  • Coordinate and/or conduct random unannounced walkthroughs of centers to prepare for site pre-inspections, scheduled monitoring visits, helping to prioritize site preparations and staffing assignments 
  • Communicate with and support workplace safety; assist with identifying and acquiring necessary tools and equipment for employees based on project needs and safety issues 
  • Collaborate with early childhood leadership in the development of service plans, including Health and Safety and other relevant operating service plans
  • Provide training and coaching of early childhood staff to create and maintain health and safety compliance
  • Dedication to professional development in order to stay abreast of changes in compliance codes and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in, early childhood or childhood education,  business management or related field preferred
  • 2-5 years’ experience working in the non-profit, early childhood environment 
  • Knowledge of early childhood education, including Head Start Act and EarlyLearn and UPK models
  • Knowledge of DOMH Child Care Regulations Article 47 and other city, state and federal protocols, standards, guidelines 
  • Knowledge and skill in data analysis and development of statistical reports
  • Strong analytic, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to deduce potential impacts of conditions or assess risk
  • Articulate and effectively communicate both written (including the ability to adequately describe observations in details) and verbally 
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking abilities
  • Computer Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and other IT software and mobile computing devices 
  • Position requires travel throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan,  using mass transit and/or personal vehicle
