Position: Mental Health Coordinator 
Supervisor: Program Director of PSN and Senior Director of Early Childhood/Family and Clinical Services

Park Slope North is a part of the University Settlement network of Early Childhood programs Park Slope North is a culturally and economically diverse preschool located in the heart of the vibrant Park Slope neighborhood in Brooklyn. The Butterflies Program uses an embedded model for addressing the social and emotional needs of young children in a holistic and strength based manner. The role of the Mental Health Coordinator is to promoting positive social emotional development of young through consultations with administration, teaching staff, family service staff, and parents. 
 
 

Responsibilities:

 
  • Evaluate the mental health needs of children under the age of five 
  • Lead mental health initiatives under the guidance of the Butterflies program.
  • Responsible for the implementation of mental health services as required under Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Train and support staff on screening and evaluating the social emotional needs of children under the age of five.
  • Observe children in classrooms  
  • Develop and implement plans in collaboration with classroom staff. 
  • Provide classroom support to meet the social emotional and behavioral needs of children.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary meetings to identify, track and plan for children’s needs.
  • Conduct consultation meetings with classroom staff and parents for children identified as needing additional support services.
  • Track and report mental health consultation in accordance with program standards
  • Facilitate  and track intra /inter agency referrals
  • Advocate for families with other community based organizations and governmental agencies
  • Inform families about community resources and how to access services 
  • Provide Child- Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), individual, and family therapy 
  • Maintain reports, administrative and clinical records in accordance with program standards. 
  • Develop and implement treatment plans 
  • Participate  in staff meetings, case conferences, training seminars and individual supervisory meetings
  • Conduct home visits as indicated
  • Demonstrate ability to engage clients and sustain treatment
  • Consultations and collateral work with other child serving professionals
  • Conduct pre-admission screening 
  • Conduct trainings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor 
  • Coordinate DECA assessments
  • Coordinate ParentCorps and Friends School groups
  • Plan Low threshold MH activities at strategic times in the program 
 

Qualifications:

 
  • Master’s degree in clinical psychology, social work, counseling, or related field required 
  • LMSW, LCAT or equivalent required
  • Three years clinical experience in a mental health setting with an emphasis in the treatment of young children; has knowledge of treatment strategies in the areas of child behavior management and family dynamics, trauma and abuse;
  • Possess the ability to work with families in a supportive manner throughout the diagnostic and referral process. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Bilingual in Spanish  preferred
