The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Prospect Park YMCA is seeking qualified individuals who, under the supervision of the COMPASS Director, will be responsible for supporting children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and children needing additional behavior modification support. The Inclusion Specialist will also support program and school staff in modifying and adapting their lesson plans to achieve IEP and inclusion goals. In addition, the Inclusion Specialist will help staff create an inclusive classroom where all students feel welcome and can learn in a style that meets their needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the successful delivery and implementation of inclusion-based programming for all contract target populations. 
  • Review students’ IEPs to help staff modify their lesson plans, so they can provide the support needed to help students achieve their goals in an inclusive classroom setting.
  • Support behavior plans and systems in place for all staff, including language and classroom management.
  • Prepare and assist staff in creating a classroom environment that is welcoming and supportive to children of all learning abilities.
  • Establish contact, build trust, and provide ongoing support and communication with, children with special needs, families, staff, and school personnel.
  • Complete administrative duties as needed, including target population tracking, data entry, filing, observations and reporting.
  • Attend monthly supervisions, staff meetings, trainings and relevant school meetings as needed.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in special education, social work or related education / prevention field.
  • Experience working with children with special needs.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • General knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Publisher, etc. required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
